How does it work?
I offer individual piano lessons in 30, 45 or 60-minute blocks.
I teach many different styles of music, and am not tied to one particular method book. I am very comfortable with all methods of instruction, and will pick the method best suited to each student's learning style.
Every year, I try to offer something new in the lessons - this year, all students (whether child or adult, beginner or advanced) will have a opportunity to play in an ensemble. Piano is probably the only instrument that performs exclusively as a solo instrument - this year all students will be working toward ensemble play in prepartion for the Ensemble recital in fall 2013.
I have 3 studio recitals each year and, as a member of Pensacola Music Teachers' Association, my students also participate in all PMTA-offered activities, including Baroque recitals, Sonata Contest, and Student Day.
Lessons are paid for by the month, in advance. Three weekly time slots are available: 30-minutes, 45-minutes and 60-minutes. This money is due by the final lesson of the preceding month. These dates can be found on the Payment Schedule sheet included in this packet. Please be aware that a $25.00 late fee will be attached if your lessons are not paid for on time.
Please make all scheduled lessons. There are no refunds given for a student missing a lesson, nor do I give walk-ins. You are paying for a time reservation, so please be considerate of others’ lesson times as well. If you are late, you will receive a shortened lesson. I cannot afford to get behind on my daily schedule. If I am forced to cancel a lesson (due to illness or PMTA functions), that money will be deducted from your next month’s bill.
Weekly lessons will include repertoire (assigned pieces), theory, and various finger exercises (scales, Fingerpower, etc.) Each student will also receive the option to purchase either Piano Explorer or Clavier; there is a very slight fee for these publications which is added to the February bill.
ALL students are expected to practice daily. The ability to play is directly related to time spent in practice. Their practice time should match their lesson time by the end of the first year in lessons and should include all pieces and exercises assigned.
ALL students are encouraged to perform as often as possible. As stated before, my students perform 3 times a year in my own studio recitals and have the opportunity to perform in all local MTNA activities. Any student with 2 years of lessons will be expected to participate in Student Day annually.
Lessons are offered year-round, excluding extended school holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring breaks) and the month of July.
